Stonehenge is made up of 2 circular settings of large standing stones, the inner
circles stones are 26 feet high and the outer circles stones are 10 feet high.
There are two types of stones used in the construction of Stonehenge. The large
outer circle is made of Sarsen which is sedimentary Sandstone and the inner circle
is made of Bluestone which is a blend of Basalt and Gabbro.
It is believed Stonehenge was constructed anywhere between 3000BC and
2000BC.
The Stones are said to have been quarried and shaped by workers and then
transported to the site. How they were transported still remains a mystery. The
stones have been weathered throughout the years by rain and wind.
The approximate age of Stonehenge is 5000 years old.
Many historians believe several different types of tribes of people built
Stonehenge between 3000BC and 2000BC, each building a different phase of it’s
construction. Many people believe the first stage was built by the people of the
Neolithic Period.
STONEHENGE IS LOCATED IN THE ENGLISH COUNTY OF
WILTSHIRE
APPROXIMATLEY 800,000 PEOPLE VISIT STONEHENGE PER YEAR.
STONEHENGE IS A WORLD HERITAGE SITE.
The Devils Marbles
• The devils marbles are 6 huge round red rocks
balancing on top of each other. The rocks
have diameters of up to 7m.
• The devils marbles are made out of granite.
• The granite blocks formed millions of years
ago, they have been shaped by years of harsh
weather conditions.
• The Devils Marbles were formed through
erosion both wind and rain.

THE DEVILS MARBLES ARE LOCATED NEAR WAUCHOPE IN NORTHERN
TERRITORY.
NATIVE ABORIGINALS BELIEVE THE DEVILS MARBLES ARE THE EGGS OF THE
RAINBOW SERPENT LAID DURING THE DREAMTIME,TO THIS DAY IT IS
CONSIDERED AS A SACRED SITEFOR THE ABORIGINAL PEOPLE.
GIANTS CAUSEWAY
• The rock’s were shaped by an ancient volcanic
eruption and they look like hexagonal rock’s.
• The giant’s causeway is an area of about
40,000 interlocking columns.
• The tallest are about 12 metres in height.
• The Giants Causeway was formed
approximately 50-60 million years ago.
• The Causeway is located in the region of
Northern Ireland.

• Wave rock is made of layers of granite.
• It is 2,700 million years old
• It is 15m high & 110m long & it look’s like a
rounded wave
• The rock was formed 2,700 million years ago
• The rock’s shape was formed by weathering
and water erosion
WAVE ROCK – WESTERN AUSTRALIA
WAVE ROCK IS LOCATED NEAR HYDEN, WA. WATER FROM THE NEARBY
SPRINGS RUN DOWN THE ROCKS DURING WETTER MONTHS WHICH HAS
FORMED THE SHAPE OF WAVE ROCK. THE COLOURS IN THE ROCK HAVE BEEN
CAUSED DUE TO CHEMICAL REACTIONS.
