Chemical properties:
• Chemical Formula: Mg
• Compounds: Oxide, hydroxide, chloride, carbonate and sulfate.
Also Epsom salts (magnesium sulfate heptahydrate) and Milk of
Magnesia (magnesium hydroxide)
• Flammability: Burns in air with a bright white light
• Reactivity:Upon heating, magnesium reacts with halogens to
yield halides
Bonding:
• When Magnesium bonds with chlorine they make ionic bond.
• Because: Ionic bonds are when atoms gain or lose electrons to
become charged species (ions) that share an electrostatic
interaction called an ionic bond. Magnesium forms a positive ion
(cation) with a 2+ charge and chlorine forms a negative ion (anion)
with a 1- charge. So two chlorine anions form an ionic bond with
one magnesium cation for form MgCl2, a neutral chemical
compound. Metals and non-metals often form ionic bonds because
of the difference in their electronegativity values.
Mixture
• Mixture:
• Magnesium OIl: WHAT IS MAGNESIUM OIL?
• First, I should clarify: magnesium oil is not an oil. It’s simply called
magnesium “oil” because of the oily feel of magnesium chloride
suspended in water. (Please note that this is not the same magnesium
found in Epsom salt. Epsom salt is magnesium sulfate. This is magnesium
chloride and is better suited for transdermal absorption.)
• You’ll usually apply magnesium oil to your skin with a spray bottle, then
rub it in and let your skin absorb it over the next half hour or so.
solution:
• magnesium citrate:
• Clearing the bowels before tests or for treating constipation.
• Magnesium citrate solution is a laxative. It works by attracting and
retaining water in the intestine, which allows the bowel to
evacuate.
