World Objectives
Sustainable development
17 Goals
New sustainable development
goals and targets adopted in
September 2015. Deadline 2030
Goal 6 : Ensure availability and
sustainable management of Water and
sanitation for all.

World Objectives
Sustainable development
Targets
6.1 By 2030, achieve universal and equitable access to
safe and affordable drinking water for all
6.2 By 2030, achieve access to adequate and
equitable sanitation and hygiene for all and end
open defecation, paying special attention to the
needs of women and girls and those in vulnerable
situations
6.3 By 2030, improve water quality by reducing
pollution, eliminating dumping and minimizing
release of hazardous chemicals and materials,
halving the proportion of untreated wastewater and
substantially increasing recycling and safe reuse
globally
World Objectives
Sustainable development
Targets
6.4 By 2030, substantially increase water-use efficiency
across all sectors and ensure sustainable withdrawals and
supply of freshwater to address water scarcity and
substantially reduce the number of people suffering from
water scarcity
6.5 By 2030, implement integrated water resources
management at all levels, including through
transboundary cooperation as appropriate
6.6 By 2020, protect and restore water-related
ecosystems, including mountains, forests, wetlands,
rivers, aquifers and lakes
World Objectives
Sustainable development
Targets
6.a By 2030, expand international cooperation and
capacity-building support to developing countries in
waterand
sanitation-related
activities
and
programmes,
including
water
harvesting,
desalination,
water
efficiency,
wastewater
treatment, recycling and reuse technologies
6.b Support and strengthen the participation of
local communities
in improving water and
sanitation management

Indicators
http://unstats.un.org/sdgs/meetings/iaeg-sdgs-meeting-02
Indictaors still under discussion
Related to waste water already agreed (green light)
•Percentage of population using safely managed
sanitation services
•Percentage of wastewater safely treated,
disaggregated by economic activity
•ODA (official development assistance) for water and
sanitation related activities and programmes
World Objectives
COP21
/
Paris Pact on Water and adaptation to climate
change in the basins of rivers, lakes and aquifers
http://www.riob.org/IMG/pdf/COP21_-_Paris_Pact_ENG_-_INBO_V16-3.pdf
•Reinforce capacity development and knowledge
•Adapt basin management planning to climate change
(reuse of treated waste water, rain harvesting, Natural
Water Retention Measues, ...)
•Reinforce governance
•Ensure adequate financing

World Objectives
COP21
Objectives of the COP21 as regards Climate Change
http://unfccc.int/resource/docs/2015/adp2/eng/8infnot.pdf
Non paper 5 October 2015 Article 3 :

address its cause

adapte to its adverse impact


promote the global transformation to low emission
and climate resilient societies and economies
Require deep cuts in greenhouse gas emission so as
to hold the increase in the global average
temperature below 2°C
World Objectives
COP21
Some ideas of measures concerning waster water
systems:
- natural water retention measures in urban planning,
- reuse of treated waste water,
- Energy efficiency, production and consumption in
waste water systems,
...
World Objectives
COP21
CONCLUSION
•Need to follow these initiatives
•Potential adaptation of waste
water data model to collect
information about these issues
