Cluster Collaboration

Sunfire (Germany) and TCE (Madurai): indigenise SOFC fuel cell technology and
commercialise it in the Indian market.
Connected Blue Rise, a Dutch company, with infrastructure companies and institutions for
commercialising Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion technology.
PSA-CIEMAT (Spain) and IIT (Rajasthan) for joint technology development and advancement
in solar thermal applications.


Building a bidding consortium for joint research calls
NewIndigo research call on Smart grids where VITO (Belgium) and IIT Delhi were facilitated
to form a bidding research consortium.


Conceptualising a workshop in March 2014 involving key decision makers in West Bengal.

Clean coal technology initiatives
8th EU-India Coal working group meeting: EBTC released a report on the ‘Potential of clean
coal technology in India-An SME perspective’.
Conclusion of the 7th EU-India working group meetings for Clean Coal Technologies: “EBTC
together with the European Commission will facilitate partnerships between the EU and the
Indian institutions as well as industries with special focus on SME to accelerate the
deployment of innovative, clean and efficient and finally affordable coal technologies.”


 The EBTC Water Partnership
- A platform for EU businesses, clusters, research institutes and other
organisations to collaborate and innovate in India’s water and wastewater
sectors.
- EBTC is a strategic partner of India Water Development Programme (IWDP)
for the EU.
 Disseminating research to detect Arsenic in water
- EBTC has been selected as disseminating partner for research conducted by
German SME Solarspring, Fraunhofer- ISE in India.
 International Conference on Membranes & Application
- EBTC actively partnered in conference organised by CSIR-CGCRI in Kolkata,
November 2013. European delegates that were introduced by EBTC, and that
participated in the event were Aqua-Q AB (Sweden) and VITO NV (Belgium).

Research on the Indian River Ecosystem

ETI Dynamics has already catalysed a research project vital for the
restoration of the river Ganga (and other water bodies).


A state of the art database that captures water quality and quantity related data and develops
a comprehensive decision support system.
Indian universities: IIT – Kanpur, Kharagpur, Indore, Roorkee, Madras, Gandhinagar.
UK universities: Universities of Oxford, Southampton, Durham, Dundee and the London
School of Economics.
Lead manager: ReserWaterInnovation Foundation and ETI Dynamics €30mn over 4 years.
EU Nodal Partner: EBTC
EU Institutions should express an interest to participate in this project to EBTC.
EBTC & ETI Dynamics are working to solicit further European
participation in the extension of the decision support system to
other rivers in India!

Environment Case Study:
Joint research for technology commercialisation
Real-time Water Quality Monitoring
Amongst other agreements, Aqua-Q AB (Sweden)
signed an MoU with a premiere council for
research in India - the Council of Scientific and
Industrial Research (CSIR) - Central Glass and
Ceramics Research Institute (CGCRI).
Aqua-Q AB is working to secure a demo site with CSIR-CGCRI.

 Clean Transport in Karnataka with partner CEIPIEMONTE:
– A high-level strategic planning discussion and two proposals for the State.
– Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) and Dual-Fuel Hybridisation of Buses.
– IISc-Bangalore nodal institution and provides expert consultation.

Indian Market For Clean Transport - An Insight:
– Focus on Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) and Alternative Vehicles (EVs,
Hybrids).
– Collaborative report of EBTC with Politecnico di Torino (Italy) and Fraunhofer
Institute-IFF (Germany).

Energy Used By Indian Transport Systems And Consequent Emissions:
– Report summarising results of collaborative research by Politecnico di Torino
and IIT-Mumbai and workshop held as part of EBTC Workplan 2012.

 Webinar: A Study of Mobility Trends in Indian Cities
– Provided dissemination of research results of research performed by Indian
Institute of Science, Bengaluru.
– Initiated by Institute for Mobility Research (IFMO), Germany - a research
facility of the BMW
– Aims to provide a systematic and comparative bottom-up analysis of the
future prospects for mobility from the perspective of the study countries.
– Make information meaningful through collaborative and comparative
interpretation based around detailed knowledge of local contexts.

 Climate KIC is Europe's largest public-private innovation partnership focused on
mitigating and adapting to climate change.
 Creating opportunities for brain circulation between the EU and India with
EBTC.
 Localising solutions to the Indian context through a Living Lab: A user-centric
eco-system consisting of EBTC and a team of India based organisations or early
adopters, which can provide feedback on suitability of technology in India,
potential for adaptation, etc.
Green IT solutions:
 Based on interest generated from IT companies in Bengaluru, EBTC is exploring
initiatives in the Green-IT space with Swedish based institutions.
