Our lives are songs; God writes
the words
And we set them to music at
pleasure;
And the song grows glad, or
sweet or sad,
~Ella Wheeler
Wilcox
As we choose to fashion
the
measure.
This poem refers to live as a song. It
refers to God as the writer of the words,
or how things in life will happen. It says
that we set those words to music at
pleasure. I think this means that the
words can be said many different ways
and put into music different ways, we just
put it into our own unique way.
In the first line, the first
sentence “Our lives are
songs” is a metaphor. I think
it sets the mood as
somewhat musical, and just
from that first sentence, I
think you already know what
the poem is going to say.
I chose this poem because
I liked it. I liked it because I
am very into music and I
liked how it referred to our
whole lives as being a
song. The whole poem
was like a big metaphor
referring to our lives as a
song and I really liked that.
