Conclusion to the Water Shortage Project –

Throughout the project we tried our best to involve our Jordanian friends wherever
possible. We value all the advice and help they could give us, afterall who knows
Jordan better than the children who go to school there.
Our partnership with Jordan has given us lots of opportunities. Earlier in the year a
few of us were lucky enough to meet Dr Tayseer Naiomi, Jordan’s Minister for
Education, who was fascinated by our ideas for raising awareness and coping with
the effects of climate change. Two of our group will travel to Jordan again this year.
The water challenge has been a fun and worthwhile project which has allowed us
to find out more about Jordan and the problems it faces. It is important for today’s
children to understand that not all countries experience the same problems as ours.
We learned lots of important things from this project. It has taught us that science
can be used to change lives for the better and also, that there is often more than
one solution to a problem, particularly problems linked to climate change. As the
next generation it will be up to us to solve the world’s problems and to do that we
not only need more students to choose STEM careers but we need to understand
that we can only do this if experts from all over the world work together as every
country has something important to offer.
