How do I take an Honors class?
• Current GATE students will continue in Honors
classes next year
• Recommendation criteria for new students:
• For Honors English – 3.6 GPA and teacher
recommendation
• For Honors Math/Science – 3.6 GPA and teacher
recommendation
Honors applications will be available when
student’s register for classes
Advanced Placement Introduction
• A rigorous academic program aimed at providing
high school students with college-level courses
• An exam is given in May for each course
• Exams are graded on a scale of 1 to 5
• Universities and colleges may offer college course
credit to students who successfully pass exams
• AP classes start during freshman year with Human
Geography. For better success and preparation,
students should take honors prior to taking an AP
course.

Introduction to Canyon’s
IB Program
• The Diploma Program is a two-year course of study
• Junior and senior year
• Exams are given in May both years.
• Scores range from 1 (low) to 7 (high).
• IB students can earn college credit similar to AP
exams.
• The most important aspect for success in the
program are motivation and dedication.
Requirements of the Diploma Program
The curriculum contains six subject groups and a core of three parts.
An IB student is required to take 6 IB classes and 6 IB exams:

Participation in a sport fulfills the physical education
requirements for that semester. A list of sports by season
can be found on our website.
The NCAA has strict guidelines regarding what courses
can be used to establish initial eligibility. Please pick up a
flyer and contact your counselor if you have questions.
Extracurricular Open House will be held on
Monday, April 25, 2016.
This event includes:
Athletic pre-participation physical screenings offered by licensed
physicians
Information on athletic teams and summer programs.
Opportunity to submit program paperwork.
All athletes should be registered on
athleticclearance.com and have a valid physical to
participate in OUSD high school athletics.
