My Goals
• Challenge students to do their best and grow as a
learner
• Learn through a variety of ways: Communication,
Collaboration, Critical Thinking, Creativity
• Encourage group work and cooperative learning
• Meet the needs of each individual student
• Become independent learners
Rules/Expectations
• Respect Yourself, Respect Others,
Respect the School, Be Ready to Learn
• Students earn bananas for great behavior.

Safe Schools/
Second Step
• Mrs. Hazen and Mrs. Kuk met with the
students to describe how we can keep our
school safe. The poster demonstrates
each student’s pledge to help keep our
school safe.
• Second Step program will have lessons to
address social emotional learning
Weekly Vocabulary
• Three Common Core Words are analyzed every
week
• Words will be sent home every Friday
(newsletter)
• Students will map each word
• These words are aligned with the key concepts
we are learning in reading workshop
• Vocab quiz every Friday
Reading Requirements
– Read 20 minutes a day
– Log their reading in their Reading Logs nightly (title,
minutes read)
– Students should write a written response to one reading
from the week
– Logs do every Friday
– Logs might be graded at times.
– 4 books a quarter (See independent reading
expectations)
Reading & Writing
Workshop
• Weekly lessons on different reading
and writing strategies
• Guided practice in school
• Students will be given formative and
cumulative assessments throughout
and at the end of reading and writing
units

• Less emphasis on memorization and
more emphasis on applying concepts
