What can these artifacts say about me?
 I can honestly say that each of these artifacts represents some important aspect of my life
and what I hold near and dear to me. There are a lot of technological aspects to my
collage and it goes to show how much of an influence growing up in a tech savvy era
can had one me. There are fashion aspects that show how I like to dabble in products
that enhance my physical appearance. You also cannot forget one of my true love,
music. Some of my artifacts represent how much I love music as well.
Music
These artifacts show how much I really love music. My Bose head[hones are the best pair of headphones
that I own, you will not catch me on campus without them. They allow me to enjoy my music in the
mornings in a way that is superior to a pair of earbuds. My iPod touch is one of the many ways that I
listen to my music, it is convenient, and practical for me. I’ve owned this particular artifact for
about 5 years now and You won’t catch without it either. Ne-Yo’s newest album is the best album I’ve
gotten my hands on so far this year. He is my absolute favorite artist in the world because of his
ability to incorporate youth and true r&B together. Ne-Yo is true to his roots, but still appeals to
all audiences. Which brings me to my last artifact, my Beats Pill. This mini speaker packs a punch
unlike any speaker I have seen. I can use for various purposes: Dance Party or a mini Concert. These
artifacts also go to show how much of an influence music has in my life, especially if I use these
products on a day-to-day basis.
Technology
These four particular products represent how I get
through my day and my level of dependence on
technological devices. Each of these artifacts can do
the same thing as the next, but one may be convenient
than the other. My Laptop, I use for notes and
homework. My iPad, I use for small assignments. On
Occasion I have used my phone for Homework if need be,
but its main purpose is to connect me to the social
world, along with my iPad. Just like my music device,
you will see me with once of these items at any given
time. They allow me to stay mobile and social at all
times. I would say that these artifacts represent my
need to stay technologically savvy and my lifeline to
the outside world as well.
Sports
Since about the 5th grade, I have had a
passion for football. I played out in the
field with the boys, from there I picked a
team and a favorite player. The two
artifacts represent the passion I have for
football and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Troy
Polamalu is my favorite player of all time
ad this so happens to favorite jersey of
his. These two particular artifacts also
represent an awesome part of my childhood,
a time when I fell in love with the game of
football.
Design as a representation of culture…
 Over the semester I have learned that design is more than a bunch of drawings
and painting a house, there are different elements of design like product
development. Each of my artifacts represents a different part of American
culture. Developing products such as high-quality headphones, iPod Touch,
Galaxy Note 3, and even professional throwback jerseys all show how our culture
is dominated by sports and technology. These products accommodate interests
of our culture.
Design as a process, media, and
consumerism…
 Design as a process: Artifacts like the MAC’s Ruby Woo lipstick, Xbox 360, and the Bose
headphones show how design is about creating a product that do more than just meet
the needs of consumers. Design is a process that creates an end product that supplies the
demand for a product that consumers want to buy Headphones are not what they use to
be 10 years ago, they exceed what we expect for them to nowadays.
 Design as a form of media: If you look at it from a advertisement perspective, music artists
mention some of these artifacts in their music. Even within the NFL, they are paid $4 billion
a game to advertise for some of the products that I have listed, such as: Beats, Apple, and
a variety of cars.
 Design as a product of consumerism: As I stated before, each of these artifacts are some
type of evolution of an idea that was thought of long ago. If you look at the original iPod
looks absolutely nothing like the newest model. These products are designed and evolve
to suit the needs of the consumers in the way they envisioned them.
