their word cloud on tagul.com.

Music News from Mrs. Moore
The mission of Mansfield ISD and Tarver Rendon is to inspire and educate students to be productive adults. In music class we seek to become productive by
becoming music adults. Musical adults are able to participate in community events. In the last newsletter we looked at how music helped support literacy.
Today, I would like to look at ways music supports learning math skills. Brain research shows that large areas of the brain that are active when performing
math skills are also active when performing musical activities, especially playing a musical instrument.
In fact, children who participate in music will outperform students without the music instruction.
Music seems to help develop math skills in the following ways…
•Helps students move concepts from concrete (manipulatives) to abstract (mental concepts).
•Students who participate in music have a greater ability to hold and manipulate objects in space.
•Music seems to help with spatial reasoning, proportions, and temporal reasoning (time),that help support geometric concepts.
Some ways you can support your student.
•Sing with your child – (don’t worry about your own singing skills, it is as much about opportunity then skill) encourage your child to sing
•Move to music – March through the store, tiptoe to music, hop, jump and step to music.
•Listen to beautiful music. Talk about your favorite song. What touches you with the music? Encourage your child to talk about the music you hear.
If possible, encourage your child to take music lessons.
