Section 2:
The Right Weight for You
Introduction
Weight depends on bones, muscles, fat,
fluids, and tissues
Food energy is mostly stored in fat
Measuring Body Fatness
“body fatness” is NOT the same as “body
weight”
Body fat can be measured by using a
fatfold caliper
Done by:
Pinching below shoulder blade, back of arm,
side of waist
Measuring how much skin is in pinch
What are quick ways to measure body
fatness?
How does “body fat” differ from “body weight”
Scale Weight
High weight doesn’t always mean high fat
Muscle weighs more than fat
A person with very little fat, but high
muscle content weighs MORE than a
person with just high fat content.
Height-weight tables are useless because
they list facts of adults over the age of 25.
