Our Targets For Today
By the end of the lesson we will all be able
to :
Name the major muscles in the
body.
2. Locate the major muscles of the
body.
3. Understand what FLEXION and
EXTENSION mean in relation to
movement.
1.
What are we going
to learn and how are
we going to work?
We are going to
learn about how
muscles enable
us to move.
Working in groups
at stations to
experience the
actual movement
of different
muscle groups.
The Major Muscles
Task
1
You are now going to
learn the names of the
major muscles.
Names and Location of the
Major Muscles
How do our muscles work?
We use our muscles for
everyday and sporting
activities such as walking,
running and jumping.
Our muscles work in
PAIRS; as one muscle
contracts (shortens) the
other one relaxes
(lengthens) to allow the
movement we all can see
and perform.
Types of movement
The two types of movement we will be
focusing on are flexion and extension.
Flexion = Bending
Extension = Straightening
Flexion
Extension
Exercising our muscles
Task
2
You are now going to perform a circuit
to exercise your muscles.
Each station has the name of the muscle
being worked.
As you are going around the circuit try
to think about when you are flexing and
extending your muscles, and what
muscles are creating these movements.

Have we achieved our
Targets?
• Can we now:
1. Name the major muscles in the
body.
2. Locate the major muscles of the
body.
