Symptoms

 Unable to raise affected arm
 Grinding feeling when moving affected joint
 Although shoulder doesn’t always appear out-of-
position, a bump or swelling may show along clavicle
at the AC joint
 Bone rarely breaks through skin, but may push skin
out

checked

How A Broken Clavicle Is Diagnosed
(continued)
 Check muscle strength
 Take an x-ray to pin point the location of the break and
how severe it is
Treatment
 Broken clavicles heal on their own
 Surgery is rarely needed
 For adults, your arm may be kept in a sling for up to a
week
 Simple exercises may be done immediately
 Can start strength training when there is no pain
