Basic Library Research
• Know the purpose of the research;
state the problem in your own words.
• Narrow your topic, and define key
terms.
• Prepare an outline to organize major
points.

When searching for supportive
facts, choose:
• Sources dated most recently (or at
the time of historical occurrence)
• Articles from refereed journals
(rather than trade journals)
• Authors with good credentials
• Writing that is objective and
unbiased
