What classroom management strategies could be
used to effectively manage students while they are
using technology for your situation?
Management strategy (have a plan A, B, C, etc)
Keep the faster students interested while not out-pacing the
slower ones
Have students abide by the computer classroom rules
“If the computer is not on fire, then try to figure out a solution to the problem.’
Set guidelines for the computer class or activity
Guided composition
Set rules and stick by them
Demonstrating the activity first with one computer connected to
a projector
Use guides and assessments to keep the students on task
Worksheet; a sheet that they can check the items off as they go along
Listening and analyzing compositions with two examples of
what was liked and tell them what they can improve
Equal opportunity at using the software
Notation Software
Finale or Sibelius or Notion or
MuseScore
Tool
“When should notation software be
used? Simple. When the main objective
is to print out a part or score for
someone to read. Remember the “n”
rule: if notes are required, then use a
notation program.” (Rudolph, 2004, pg.
155).
Advantages:
Producing printed parts and arrangements
Saves time
Looks professional
“Proof listening” like proof reading helps
you to find mistakes
Create worksheets
Lead sheets
Rewrite parts
Develop students’ composition skills
Teach harmony, rhythm, transposition
Disadvantages:
Software is initially time
consuming and difficult to
master
It requires time and practice
Some Features:
Print out score or parts
Add lyrics
Transpose at a click of a button
Scanning
Inputting with computer to MIDI
keyboard/controller
Save as audio file
Worksheets! Create and edit pre-made
ones
