A Campaign to Help Children
Build Stronger Bones
Bone Health
• It is vital that children build strong bones before they
reach their mid to late twenties.
• Lack of exercise and poor diets when we are young can
increase the risk of osteoporosis in later life.
• We want children to eat well, move more and get enough
vitamin D.
The Bone Bank
• Our bone mass naturally decreases as we age.
• However, if we ‘bank’ bone when we are young, it can
help prevent osteoporosis later in life.

can become fragile.
Building Stronger Bones
We can build stronger bone by:
• Eating a well-balanced diet
containing calcium-rich food.
• Doing regular weight-bearing
exercise.
• Getting enough vitamin D.
YouGov Survey (2008)
• 49% young people did not know that there are
steps you can take to reduce the risk of
osteoporosis.
• 56% young people did not know that exercise
could help to reduce the risk of osteoporosis.
• 1 in 3 did not know about the role diet can play
in minimising risk.
