Organizational meeting
October 15, 2003
Working Agenda:
11:45 a.m. - Introductions, areas of interest
11:55 a.m. - Remote supervision and interpretation of cardiovascular magnetic resonance studies
as an example what could be enabled by Internet 2.
12:10 p.m.- Specific discussion items:
National Risk Screening and Identification Network for Athlete Sudden Death
Building an understanding of how the heart works, fusion imaging of models,
measurements.
Remote robotic participation in surgical procedures?
Catheterization procedures.
Distance collaboration methods for Bioengineering Research Partnerships
12:50 p.m.- What opportunities exist within Internet2? Who should we get to know?
Jere Retzer, OHSU- Chair Health Sciences SIG
1:10 p.m. - General Discussion - What organizations do you know? What company contacts do you
have? Who should we bring to the table as we work towards establishing an ongoing
Working Group?
1:30 p.m. - General Discussion – Summary
Planning the next steps; next meeting; prioritization of directions.
1:45 p.m. - Adjourn
Welcome to the Cardiovascular
SIG of Internet 2
Unlike most other forms of imaging,
imaging of the heart is performed
with an understanding of the heart
Tools for anatomy, physiology,
perfusion by MRI and by
ultrasound require special expertise
Best Results
Combination of physics, imaging expertise,
cardiac physiology, and cardiology
Not present in most Radiology departments
More cardiac enabled systems in large metro
areas than people who know how to use them
Example (State of Oregon) - 13 enabled systems, 1
group who knows how to use for Cardiac MRI
Cardiovascular SIG
