a curved line JOINING or CONNECTING
two notes of the same pitch

WERE YOU LISTENING?
the musical Tie
F
F
is a curved line ________or__________
two notes of the same pitch together
without a break
When do we use it?
Usually to carry notes over a bar line
into another measure.
? WHY ?
1st – Remember the Time Signature:
4 (quarter note) beats in every measure
If we use a note greater than a quarter
note on Beat 4, like a HALF note, it will not
be true to the Time Signature
However, we can still substitute the sound
for a half note, because the tie requires us
not to break the notes apart.
Ta Ta Ta Ta- ah Ta Ta Ta
Draw a Tie between beat 3 and beat
1 of the following measures.
Ta Ta Ta - ah Ta Ta
Now, try reading 4 beat rhythmic
patterns using the tie.
Can you
