Success Criteria:
To be able to identify the factors of a number
To identify the type of number by identifying the number of factors it has

Factor Patterns
• Draw a table like the one to
the right. It will need 26
rows, including the headings
at the top.
• Fill in the middle and right
columns. Make sure you
check your answers
• If you finish…
– Which numbers have 2
factors?
– Which numbers have an odd
number of factors? Why?

Factor Patterns
• Numbers with 2 Factors only
– 2, 3, 5, 7, 11, 13, 17, 19, 23
– What types of number are these?
– Prime numbers (The only numbers that divide into
them are 1 and themselves)
• Numbers with an odd number of Factors
– 1, 4, 9, 16, 25
– What types of number are these?
– Square numbers (you can make by multiplying the
same number together 1x1, 2x2, 3x3 etc…)
