What is Opositional
Defiant Disorder (ODD)?
problems with: defiance, disobedience and
hostility toward authority figures
last for at least six months.
symptoms need to occur outside of a mood
disorder
without psychotic features
cause a disruption in school, social, and
work performance..
exact cause is unknown.
contributing factors are suspected to be
genetics, and family and social
conflict/injury.
Symptoms of ODD.
often loses temper
often argues with adults
defies authority deliberately
deliberately annoys people
blames others for own mistakes
is touchy, angry and resentful, spiteful and
vindictive.
Treatment.
Medications are not usually indicated unless
another illness is present.
This illness may co occur with depression,
ADHD, or anxiety disorders.
