1-3 REAL Numbers :New Vocabulary:
Real Numbers :
A number that is either RATIONAL or IRRATIONAL
Natural Numbers :
“Counting Numbers” 1,2,3….etc [note: not zero or any negative numbers.]
Whole Numbers :
Counting numbers inclusive of zero 0,1,2,3…etc [Note: no negative numbers.]
Integers :
Whole numbers & their negatives -2,-1,0,1,2 …etc
Rational Numbers : A number that can be written as a ratio of two integers. Ex: ½ or -3/4
[note: In decimal form the number is either terminating or repeating. Ex: 8.222…. ]
Irrational Numbers : A number that can’t be written as a ratio of two integers. Ex: “pi”
[Note: In decimal form the number is non-terminating & non-repeating ex: π ]
Inequality :
A mathematical sentence that uses an inequality symbol. Ex: ≤ , ≥ , < …etc
Absolute Value :
All positive REAL numbers.
