To figure out where the decimal
point goes in the answer, count
the number of digits AFTER the
decimal point in the problem.

Remember the correct order of operations:

Notice the pattern in the chart…
For each new figure, you’re adding one
more than you did the time before.
In the associative property, the order the
numbers & letters appear in does not change.
Instead, the parenthesis are moved to
a different location.
A 30% discount means that the
store pays 30% of the cost,
while the customer pays 70%.

The $45 discount from Melody Music
means you just simply subtract.
The MODE is the most
common number.
It’s possible to have more
than one mode. This
happens when there’s a tie
for first place.
Scalene: No sides are congruent.
Isosceles: 2 sides are congruent.
Equilateral: All sides are congruent.
Acute: All angles are less than 90.
Right: One angle is equal to 90.
Obtuse: One angle is greater than 90.

The word CONSTANT means that
the numbers must be decreasing at
the SAME RATE each time.
In this table, the output
numbers are decreasing
by 2 each time!
Answers will vary slightly.
Here’s what I came up with…
I decided this block would be 10
meters tall and 10 meters wide.

The times have been coming
down slowly over the past
forty years. There haven’t
been a lot of big jumps in
either direction.
Way too slow.
Way too fast.
A good estimate
would be in the
mid-53’s.

Jim’s savings are definitely increasing.
Also, his savings are increasing by
$25 each month. This is a constant
rate of increase.

Do the parenthesis first.

And finally, you multiply.

A 1 to 3 ratio would
mean that the new
triangle would have to
have a base of 12 units
and a height of 9 units.
The perimeter of the new space is
twice as large as the old perimeter.
The area of the new space is four
times as large as the old area.

less than 5” long.

If the smaller pieces were exactly 5” long,
we could cut the 20” ribbon into 4 pieces.
We would still only be able to
cut the ribbon into 4 pieces.

This would be right around 10 votes.

The advantage of the bar graph The advantage of the circle graph
is that the cafeteria workers
is that the information appears in
can see how many pizzas to
percentages. It’s a little easier
make, how many tacos to make,
to compare the food items with
etc. The number of students is each other in this format. Also,
clearly marked.
if the students’ food choices start
to change, it will be more
noticeable on the circle graph.
This represents 2 ¼ units.
Each of these ovals is ¾.
At this rate, here’s what would happen…

Area of a triangle = ½(base)(height)
Area of a triangle = ½ (30) (26)
30 x 20 would be 600. ½ of 600 is 300.
An answer of 300 would be too small.
30 x 30 would be 900. ½ of 900 is 450.
An answer of 450 would be too large.

The best way to predict what will
happen is to draw a straight line
that goes through (or close to) as
many points as possible. This is
called the line of best fit.
