My Comparison of Mesopotamia
and Ancient Egypt

Ancient Egypt.
Geography of Mesopotamia
Geographical Features:
*The Tigris River.
*The Euphrates River.
*The Syrian Desert.
How these geographic features affected life:
*The rivers of Mesopotamia made it possible to farm. When they flooded the
rivers drew silt, a fertile soil, onto the land so it was possible to farm. The rivers
also made it possible to irrigate the crops.
Geography of Ancient Egypt
Geographical Features:
*The Nile River.
*The Mediterranean Sea.
*The Western Desert.
*The Taurus Mountains.
How these geographical features affected life:
*The Nile River made it possible to farm, travel, and trade. Egypt is nicknamed “The Gift of the
Nile”. The Western desert protected Ancient Egypt from invaders. The Taurus Mountains also
blocked invaders from coming into Ancient Egypt.

Mesopotamia's Government
The Form of Government:
*Mesopotamia was a theocracy. Theocracy is a form of government in which god is recognized as the
supreme civil ruler and in which religious authorities rule the state as god’s representatives.
Who is in charge?
*Kings are in charge.
How is powered shared?
*The king shared power with the Government Officials and Priests.
Examples of Rulers
*King Hammurabi is a Babylonian ruler who is famous for writing the Code of Hammurabi,
the first set of written laws.

*Egypt is also a theocracy. Theocracy is a government in which god is recognized as the supreme

*Pharaohs are in charge.

*Khufu is famous for building the Great Pyramid of Giza.
*Hatshepsut is famous for being the first girl pharaoh.

*Ramesses The Great is famous for building many palaces and temples throughout Egypt .
Mesopotamia’s Religion
Beliefs:
*They believed the God lived at the top of the Ziggurat.
*They also believed in Polytheism. This is where you believe in many gods.
*They also believed the King was a God.
Traditions:
*They worshiped many gods.
*The Priest performed Religious Ceremonies.
*They played music to please the gods.
Gods:
*Enki- the god of wisdom
*Enlil- the lord of air
*Utus- the sun god
*Nanna- the moon god
Ziggurat.
Ancient Egypt's Religion
Beliefs:
*They believed in After Life.
*They also believed in Polytheism.
*They also believed in a Ka.
Traditions:
*They buried Pharaohs with items such as furniture and food for the after life.
An Ancient
Pyramid.
*They also built Pyramids to put Pharaohs in.
*Another tradition is weighing a dead persons heart to see if they were allowed into the after life.
Gods:
*Re or Amon the god of the sun.
*Osiris the god of the underworld.
*Isis the goddess of magic.
