Warm Up:
Take out a sheet of paper. Put your name in the upper right hand corner. On the title line,
write Stargirl vocabulary quiz 13-22. Skip the line underneath the title line and then number
1-11.

So today we will split up sentences based on
nouns and verbs. We will split sentences into
subjects and predicates.

is about
The predicate tells what the subject is or
does.

Turn to chapter 23 (pg. 126). Read the first paragraph one
sentence at a time. For each sentence, ask: What is this
sentence about? (that will be your subject). Then ask: What is
this subject doing or being? (that will be the start of your
predicate).
Those were the best times, when we were alone, together, out of school. We
took long walks around town and into the desert, to her enchanted place. We
sat on park benches and people watched. I introduced her to strawberry
banana smoothies. I borrowed the pickup and drove us to Red Rock and
Glendale. On weekends we went to Archie's. On his back porch we talked of a
thousand things and laughed and swooned in pipesmoke and at pizza. She
presented her oratorical speech to Senor Saguaro. We never spoke of the
shunning. I loved weekends. But Mondays always followed Sundays.
