A word formed from a verb and used as an adjective
Things to Remember:
Participles look like verbs but act as adjectives in the sentence.
You must pay attention to how the word is being used in the sentence.
Example:
The dad grilled the steaks for dinner. (verb)
The grilled steaks were great for dinner. (adjective)
Present Participles
Describes a noun
Formed by adding -ing
Examples:
The crying baby was hungry.
A roasting chicken smelled so good in the restaurant.
My sleeping puppy makes me so happy.
Past Participles
Describes a noun
Ends in -ed
Examples:
Mrs. Carey likes the labeled books to stay in order.
The dreaded test was much easier than I thought it would be.
The opened mail was on the counter.
