What is a modal verb?
• Want, must and can are all examples of
modal verbs.
• Modal verbs are usually followed by
another verb (in the infinitive).
I want to watch TV.
She must do her homework.
He has to do his homework.
• Unfortunately these verbs are irregular in
French and we therefore need to learn
some more patterns…
