What is a tense?
Definition:
A tense is a grammatical category to the
time of situation. English has two tense
categories indicated by the form of the
verb: Present and Past.
The tense distinction is made on the first
or only verb in the verb phrase.

What is an aspect?
Definition:
An aspect is a grammatical category
refering to the way that the time is
viewed by the speaker or writer.
English has two aspects: Perfect and
Progressive.
Aspect is indicated by a combination of
an auxiliary verb and a following verb.

NOTE
The perfect aspect requires the perfect
auxiliary ( have, has ) and followed edparticiple.
The progressive aspect requires the
progressive auxiliary ( be ) and a
followed by ing-participle.

What is a present participle?
Definition:
A
present participle is a kind
of verb that ends in –ing form
and functions as verb and as
attributive verb.

HOW TO USE PRESENT PARTICIPLE
1) The present participle is used to
form the progressive aspect or present
action.
Susanna is learning English at CUE now.
2) The present participle is used as
adjective to modify noun.
The watering can that is used by Obama
is mine.

modify a verb or sentence.
Broadly
speaking, the project was

Definition:

past participle is a kind of
verb that is finished by ( ed )
or changed to the other form
that depends on verbs.

HOW TO USE PAST PARTICIPLE
1) The past participle is used to form
the perfect aspect.
He has studied English since he was 12.
2) The past participle is used to form
passive.
The chicken was eaten.
