Some rules of English Grammar
2011/2012
QUESTION TAGS
• If the sentence is
affirmative, the tag is
negative.
• If the sentence is
negative, the tag is
affirmative.
EX: You are from
Canada, aren’t you?
EX. You aren’t from
canada, are you?
PRESENT PERFECT
• We form the present perfect simple with the verb
HAVE and the PAST PARTICIPLE of the main
verb.
In english, we
only use HAVE
for the present
perfect simple,
NOT BE.
In Italian, we form
the past of some
verbs with
ESSERE and some
with AVERE.
Differents between the two Past
en English.
• PAST SIMPLE
We use the past
simple when we
talk about actions
that they have
already finished.
• PRESENT PERFECT
We use the present
perfect when we
talk about actions
that they have
ripercution in the
present
PRESENT SIMPLE PASSIVE
RULE: We form the present simple passive with the verb be +
the past participle of the main verb.
FORM: SUBJ. + AM/ IS/ ARE + PAST PARTICIPLE
RULE: We use the passive when it isn’t important who does
the action, or when we don’t know who does it.
EX: Millons of pizzas are eaten in the world every year.
YET
• We use YET in
question and
negative sentences.
• We use YET at the
end of sentences or
question
EX: Has he seen the Empire State of Building yet?
ALREADY
• We use ALREADY in
positive sentences.
• We use already
between HAVE and
the VERB.
EX: I have already finished my Maths homework.
JUST
• We often use JUST in positive sentences with the
present perfect simple when we want to say that an
action happened a very short time ago.
EX: Giovanni has just done his school exams.
STILL
STILL = ANCORA
The use of Still is different by the use of Yet because
we use Still when we don’t use Present Perfect.
EX: There are still a lot of thing i have to do before
I can go home.
