Essay 1: Mistakes
Basic Rules (also for TOEFL):
1. Thesis must have a topic and an opinion
2. Don't put pronouns in the thesis or topic sentences. No
connectors either.
Ex: She has taught me how to be a better man by...
Ex: Frankly speaking, my grandfather is amazing for three
key reasons which are....
3. Conclusion must be at least 4 sentences long.

Keep the same verb tense throughout the sentence
Ex: I took my driving test, but I ran into another car the next day, I

Ex: I eat breakfast, take a shower, and went to school.
Ex: The diner was empty and lonely, nobody in there.

1. Some people believe that the government is correct in using
prisoners for labor to advance the economy while others feel
that this is an incentive to arrest more criminals so that they
may work for the government labor force. Do you agree or
disagree? Provide reasons for your choice.
2. Some people believe that prisoners deserve to have some
freedoms like access to medicine, libraries, sports

Basically, an article is an adjective. Like adjectives, articles modify
nouns.
For example, if I say, "Let's read the book," I mean a specific
book. If I say, "Let's read a book," I mean any book rather than a
specific book.

Do you prefer to shop online or at a real store?
Write a short essay comparing and contrasting
the experience of shopping at these two different
