Key features of Instructions
THEY USUALLY CONTAIN:
 A title
 A list of things that you will need (materials)
 Numbered steps (What you do as each step is set
out on a new line)
 A sequence of steps set out in the right order
(sequencing)
 Command Verbs which begin each instruction (put,
get, spread, cut etc.)
 Safety tip
Today we will be writing instructions
which explain “How to ask someone
you like to prom”
This is Stephen the student. He
only started attending Holy Trinity
this year and needs help asking
someone he really likes to prom.
He is quite nervous as he has
never taken a risk like this before.
So to help him out, we will write
instructions for him on how to ask
his desired target to what could
be the greatest day of his life.
We are learning to:


Understand how to write and set out a clear,
simple set of instructions.
Example: How to Trap a Dragon, How to
Take Care of a Pet Dragon
What I’m Looking for:
You are to write a set of instructions for “How
to ask someone to prom” which includes:
 A title
 A number for each instruction
 At least 2 figures/pictures/images as aids
 Each instruction beginning on a new line
 A verb or time connective word to begin each
instruction
 All of the steps in the correct order.
 A safety tip that deals with the after affect.
After you have written your
instructions…….

We will get into learning partners to work
together to see if you have been successful
and included the main features of
instructions in your writing
