Le verbe + l’infinitif
Talking about what you like or don’t
like to do
The infinitive?
What is the ‘infinitive’ form of the verb?
It’s the form before it is conjugated - when it
still has the –ER ending
Aimer, Adorer & Détester
These verbs are often followed by an infinitive
to express what one likes or does not like to do
Example:
J’aime danser. I love to dance
Il adore chanter. He adores singing
Nous détestons passer des examens
We hate taking tests
You can make them negative too
Je n’aime pas regarder la télé
I don’t like to watch TV
Note – the verbs aimer, adorer and détester
are conjugated to agree with the subject.
Whatever you like or don’t like to do is left with
the –ER on the end!
