• I will place an object at your table.
WAIT FOR INSTRUCTIONS!
• As a team you will either touch, smell, or
listen to the object.
• On your sensory chart, record your
description of the object in the appropriate
column. (Write it under the “Classroom
Examples”)

sound, smell, touch
and taste what the
story is about.
Building a sentence is
like looking at a
picture frame.

Ask yourself questions like: What
color? What
size? What sound? What smell?
Where,When,Why, What, Whom or
How to the action verb.
Let’s add a sensory word to the subject
noun and a Where,When,Why, What,
Whom or How to the action verb.
The tiger walked.
What color was the tiger?
The orange, striped tiger walked.
Where did the tiger walk?
The orange, striped tiger walked
in the water.
Why did the tiger walk through the grass?
The orange, striped tiger walked
in the water, looking for food.

1. Look at the picture at your table group.
2. Choose at least 3 different action verbs
3. Write 3 simple sentences (more if you can)
4. Stretch both the noun and the verb.
Example:
lizard lounged

lizard slumbered.

• 2. In your Source book, title the entry
“Building Sentences: Sensory Words”
• 3. Stretch both the noun and the verb.
• Ask yourself questions like: What color?
What size? What sound? What smell?
When? Where? How? Why?
