Lie - Lay
• 2 different words with different meanings
and principle parts
• Lie – “to be in a reclining position” – there
is no movement associated with this word
–Principle Parts = lie lay (have) lain
• Lay – “to put or place” – movement is
occurring when you use a form of this verb
–Principle Parts = lay laid (have) laid
