Adverbs
AN ADVERB modifies a verb, an
adjective, or another adverb.
An adverb tells where, when, how,
or to what extent.
Adverbs: WHERE
We lived there.
Please step up.
I have the ticket here.
Put that down.
Adverbs: When?
May we go tomorrow?
Water the plant weekly.
We’ll see you later.
He arrived early.
Adverbs: How?
She quickly agreed.
The rain fell softly.
Drive carefully.
He sang beautifully.
Adverbs: To What Extent?
Fill the tank completely.
He hardly moved.
Did she hesitate slightly?
They partly completed the form.
He did not answer.
Adverbs Modify Verbs

The soldier travels quietly.

Tonight you will sleep well.

Handle the ducklings carefully.
Adverbs Modify Adjectives

The phone I bought was incredibly cheap.

Susan was really lost in the new school.

Those two lines are almost straight.

She slept too late.

We’ll meet shortly afterward.

Calvin was almost never there.
Adverb or Noun?

Tomorrow never seems to arrive. [NOUN]



