It is from Lydia (in modern Turkey)
and dates from about 650-600 BC.

This is the famous Yapese stone money. Each piece has its own value, based on the
individual history of the stone. The value is based on the effort it took to obtain the
stone from Palau, the number of lives lost in the process and the age of the stone. It
lines the paths of the villages and is rarely moved.
