English Grammar Connection: Reflexive Verbs and
Reflexive Pronouns show that the subject of a sentence
both does and receives the action of the verb. The reflexive
pronoun in English end in –self of –selves.
She dried herself with a towel.
Ella se secó con una toalla.

Use Reflexive Pronouns with Reflexive Verbs when the
subject in a sentence is the same as its objects.
Here’s how:

Me lavo
Te lavas
Se lava
nos lavamos
os laváis
se lavan

Many verbs can be used with or without reflexive pronouns. When
there is no reflexive pronouns, the person doing the action does not
receive the action.
Anita se lava.
Anita washes herself.
Anita lava los platos.
Anita washes the dishes.
Do not use possessive adjectives with reflexive verbs. Use the definite
article instead.
Anita se lava la cara.
Anita is washing her face.

When an infinitive follows a conjugated verb, the reflexive
pronoun can be placed before the conjugated verb or
attached to the infinitive.
Me voy a acostar a las once. or Voy a acostarme a las once.
I’m going to go to bed at eleven.
Some verbs have different meanings when used reflexively.
dormir to sleep
poner to put
dormirse to fall asleep
ponerse to put on (clothes)

Pronunciación
pg. 239
In Spanish, vowels are divided into two categories: strong
and weak. A, e, and o are the strong vowels; i and u are
weak. A weak vowel with another vowel forms one sound,
called a dipthong.
Igualmente
demasiado
afeitarse
ciudad
If there are two consecutive vowel, and one has an accent
mark, then each vowel is pronounced separately. The same
is true for two strong vowels.
