The sun temperature is (15,000,000 C- 27,000,000 F) and
pressure (340 billion times Earth’s air pressure at sea level.
The sun appears to have been active for 4.6 billion years and has
enough fuel to go on for another five billion years or so. At
the ends of it’s life, the sun will start to fuse and helium into
heavier elements and begin to swell up, ultimately growing so
large that it will swallow up the earth. After a billion years as
a red giant the Sun will suddenly collapse into a white dwarf ,
the final end it will turn to a star like ours it may take a trillion
years to cool off completely.
Nine planets orbit around the Sun, the sun moves around the
earth 25.4 earth days.
Mercury is the planet nearest the sun. It has a diameter of 3,032 miles (4,879
kilometers), about two-fifths of Earth’s diameter. Mercury orbits the sun at an
average distance of about 36 million miles ( 58 million kilometers), compared with
about 93 million miles (150 million kilometers) for Earth.
Mercury orbits the sun in and elliptical (oval shaped) orbit. The planet is about
28,580,000 miles (46,000,000 kilometers) from the sun to it’s closest point, and
about 43,380,000 miles (69,820,000) from the sun at it’s farthest point. Mercury is
about 48,000,000 miles (77,300,000 kilometers) from earth at it’s closest point.
Mercury around the sun moves faster than any other planets, mercury travels
about 30 miles ( 48 kilometers) per second, and goes around the sun once 88 days.
Mercury rotates once about every 59 earth’s day. Mercury is covered by a thin
layer of minerals called silicates (sil-a-kit-s) in the form of tiny particles.
Venus
• Venus is about 3 light minutes away from
Earth.
• The average temperature is about 900 ̊f.
• Venus and Earth are closer together than any
other two planets.
• Venus has a volcanic surface.
• Venus’s thick clouds keep heat and gases
trapped (Sulfuric acid and carbon dioxide)
Earths features
are things like…
Water, land,
clouds,
mountains, air,
weather, dirt,
wood, plants,
and living things.
Facts/ interesting
about earth
- Earth is 4.5 billions
years old
- 71% of earth is water
- Earth is the 3rd plant
from the sun
- Earth is the 5th
largest plant in the
solar system
Moon
There is not just one moon in the universe there
are hundreds, this is just the moon for the
planet earth, and a moon cannot have another
moon, because the moon isn't a planet the
moon is just a moon.
The moon is actually smaller then the earth and
in the matter of fact it has way less mass of the
earth as well.
Mars
Distance:
•
Mars has an average distance of 227.9 * 106 kilometers from the Sun.
•
The distance form Earth to Mars is 55.7 million km.
The Atmosphere:
•
The atmosphere of Mars is very thin, in this environment without oxygen and special gear. The atmosphere is mainly
composed of 95 percent carbon dioxide. However, at times, the atmosphere can also contain dust particles.
The Land:
•
Mars is called the "red planet" because of the iron-oxide dust that gives it the red color. The fourth planet from the sun is a
cold world, as one might expect, with the only "water" so far discovered in the form of ice at the poles.
The Size:
•
Mars is roughly half the size of the Earth. It has a diameter of 4,222 miles, compared to Earth's 7,962 miles at the equator.
Mars is 53% as large as our planet; this means that Mars has a gravity that is less than 40% of what we feel on Earth. Mars
has an atmosphere, but it is less than one percent of ours and is comprised mostly of carbon dioxide.
A Day On Mars:
•
•
A day on Mars is 24 hours, 39 minutes and 35 seconds; amazingly similar to a day on Earth.
Just like Earth, Mars has sidereal days and solar days. A sidereal day is the length of time Mars takes to complete one
rotation on its axis compared to the background stars. A sidereal day on Mars is 24 hours, 37 minutes, and 22 seconds. A
solar day is the length of time it takes for the Sun to return to the meridian. Because Mars is orbiting around the Sun, this
position moves a little bit every day. The solar day is 24 hours, 39 minutes and 35 seconds.
Mars has two moons they are:
•
•
Phobos
Deimos
Jupiter
• Moons: 63
Moons.
• Texture: smooth/
rough has
mountains and a
lot of sand and
dirt.
• Jupiter has a ring
but it isn’t visible
it is the called
the inner ring of
Jupiter.
Saturn
•Saturn has seven thin, flat rings around it.
•31 moons
•Saturn rotates faster than any other planet except Jupiter
•Saturn is made up of everything from dust to car-size boulders
of ice and rock, these flat ring are kept neatly in place by the
gravity of my shepherd moons.
•Fast winds in the upper atmosphere combined with rising heat
cause the planet’s yellow and gold banding
Uranus
Uranus is a giant ball of gas and liquid. The surface of the
consists of blue-green clouds made up of tiny crystals
called methane.
Uranus is the seventh planet of from the sun in our solar
system. It is a planet that is covered in ice and covered in
clouds and also the planet has 11 rings and 22 moons. The
planets color blue comes from the methane it has ( CH4 )
in its atmosphere , there molecules absorb light.
The planets size is 31,690 miles in diameter. This is about 4
times the diameter of earth. It is the 3rd planet big from
our solar system.
Neptune
It has an equatorial diameter of 49,500 kilometers
(30,760 miles). If Neptune were hollow, it could contain
nearly 60 Earths has 8 satellites a day is 16.11 hours
Atmospheric components: 74% hydrogen, 25% helium,
1% methane, Neptune has 8 known moons: Triton,
Thalassa, Naiad, Despina, Galatea, Larissa, Proteus and
Nereid. The planet is smooth.

Pluto
• Pluto is about 39 times as far from the sun as
Earth. It’s average distance from the sun is about
3,647,240,000 miles ( 5,869,660,000 kilometers).
At some point in it’s orbit, it comes closer to the
sun than Neptune, the outer most planet. It stays
inside Neptune orbit for about Earth years.
• These event occurs every 248 Earth years, Pluto
appears to be the coldest planet in the solar
system and it has the color of brown and it is
covered with frozen methane gas.
