Subject(主語)
The person or thing that does the
action of the verb
John came home.
The store opens at 10:00.
Verb(動詞)
A kind of word which shows what a
person or thing is doing or the state it
is in or what is happening to it
I walk to school every day.
I like chocolate very much.
Object(目的語)
The direct object is the person or
thing affected by the action of the verb
I bought the book yesterday.
The indirect object is the person or
thing who benefits from the action or
who receives something
He lent his brother some money.
Complement(補語)
A word or phrase that follows a linking
verb and describes the subject or
object
My father is a dentist.
I found this book interesting.
Modifier(修飾語)
A word or a phrase which describes or
limits the meaning of another word
and which is independent of other
grammatical elements
There are twenty students in this room.
He studies English every day.
