Kinds of Verbs
Transitive: action or linking verb that has a
complement/direct object.
all linking verbs= transitive.
Linking: establish relationship between subject
and term in predicate which describes/renames
subject.
Forms of be [is, are, was, were…], appear, become,
feel, seem, smell, taste, and sound.
Intransitive: action verb which does not have
a direct object.
The verb to go is always intransitive
Examples
Most verbs can be both intransitive and
transitive depending on the sentence.
He runs a large corporation.
(The verb runs has a direct object,
corporation.)
He runs around the block daily.
(There is no direct object.)
