Subjunctive: Regular Verbs
•The subjunctive tense is used to express wants, suggestions, and demands.
•The subjunctive tense is used in conjunction with the present indicative tense. The
present indicative is found in the main clause,
and the subjunctive tense is found in the subordinate clause.
Example: I hope that you clean your room.
I hope (main clause- present indicative)
you clean (subordinate clause- subjunctive tense)
•In Spanish the word “que” connects the two causes.
Ejemplo: Es necesario que tu comas las frutas.
(It is necessary that you eat fruit.)
How to conjugate the subjunctive tense:
Step 1: put the verb in the present tense “yo” form
Step 2: drop the -o
Step 3: add the new endings (Notice the “yo” and “Ud.” forms are the same)
