reflexive actions are “brushing one’s teeth,” or combing one’s hair.” Reflexive
pronouns are used with reflexive verbs to indicate that the subject of the sentence
receives the action.











In Spanish, all reflexive verbs are expressed with a
reflexive pronoun. In the infinitive form of reflexive
verbs the pronoun attaches to the end bañarse.
 When you conjugate the reflexive verb, the pronoun
appears before the conjugated verb.
Ducharse= to shower (one’s self) Dormirse= to fall asleep
 Me ducho nos duchamos
 Te ducha os ducháis
 Se ducha se duchan
 Acostarse= to go to bed
 Me acuesto
nos acostamos

Many verbs can be used with or without reflexive pronouns.
When there is no reflexive pronoun, the person doing the
action does not receive the action.
 Ejemplos:
 Carlos se lava.
Carlos lava el carro.
 Carlos washes himself.
Carlos washes the car
 Yo me baño.
Yo baño a mi perro.
 I bathed myself.
I bathed my dog.
 Jose se despierta. Jose despierta a su hija.
 Jose wakes himself up.
Jose wakes up his daughter.
 Anytime and action is done to yourself use a reflexive
pronoun.

When you use the infinitive form of a reflexive verb after a
conjugated verb, be sure to use the correct reflexive
pronoun
 Ejemplos:
 Quiero levantarme temprano. Or I could have said:
Me quiero levantar.
 Nosotros fuimos a bañarnos. Or
 Nos fuimos a bañar.
 ¿Quieres maquillarte? Or
 ¿Te quieres maquillar?
Reflexives used reciprocally
You can also use reflexive verbs to express the idea of
“each other”
 Mi mejor amiga y yo nos telefoneamos cada día.

My best friend and I call each other everyday.
 Mis hermanitos se pelean todos los días.

My little brothers fight each other everyday.
 Juana y Raquel se odian mucho.
Juana and Raquel hate each other a lot.
 Miguel y yo nos ayudamos en la clase de español.


Miguel and I help each other in Spanish class.
