AND FORMATTING
Do Now:
Most of you are done with your research.
Now that you are writing, what is easy and
what is hard when it comes to writing your
essay?
Write a one paragraph response.
PEER EDIT
Group A: Those of you who started last week.
Group B: Those of you starting to peer edit today.
Group A—sit next to your partner and continue to
peer edit. Remember to do a good job so you can
get a good grade!
Group B—I will remind you of what to do, then you
can begin to peer edit.
FORMATTING LESSON
Formatting: organizing information on a document so that it
looks a specific way.
You will be formatting your essay in the following way:
1. Put your title in the center
2. Indent the beginning of your paragraph.
3. Choose: Times New Roman, 12 pt. Font
4. Include: A Header

College Research Essay: UC Berkeley
When I was in seventh grade, I saw a girl wearing a
sweater that read “Berkeley.” I thought the words was
interesting, so I looked it up and found out that Berkeley
refers to a great university. This essay will provide basic
information on UC Berkeley, specifically about its academic
and athletic programs.
TYPING TIME
You will now have time to format your essay and
type it.
Use the peer editing worksheet that your partner
has provided you to make corrections.
NO EXCUSES: Essay is due Thursday, typed.
Bring your packet, rough draft, peer edit—too!
INDEPENDENT READING
Today’s focus: Summarizing
To summarize, you take the most important parts of
your text and you use those parts to retell the story.
Today in your reading journal, you will have a few
minute to summarize your reading.
This strategy makes strong readers. If you want to
be a better readers, you will practice this strategy!
