Let's take a look at the Online
Bible and a few of its basic
features. This edition is available
free on the Internet at
www.onlinebible.net
The Bible version provided is the
King James Bible of 1611.
Modern translations are available
in other editions of the Online
Bible.
This is the opening screen.

UTILIZING THE ONLINE BIBLE: Slide 12 of 18
Notice that there are now numbers appearing
between the words in the passage. These are the
Strong's numbers, named for an Exhaustive
Concordance developed by James Strong in 1890.
James Strong indexed all of the words of the Bible,
and included a lexicon with his concordance, so that
Bible students would be able to look up the meaning
of the original Hebrew or Greek word used in any
given passage.
UTILIZING THE ONLINE BIBLE: Slide 13 of 18
Move your mouse
cursor over any of
these Strong's
numbers, and a floating
window will appear,
showing the original
Hebrew or Greek word,
and the transliteration
and pronunciation of
that word. There is
also a link to the root
word, and a link to
another dictionary that
will give an expanded
definition of the word.

In the case of Hebrew words, this link (TWOT) is to the Theological
Wordbook of the Old Testament, by Harris, Archer and Waltke, published
in 1980 by Moody Press. It utilizes its own index, but the window in the
Online Bible contains the TWOT index number, to make it easier for the
student to find. (NOTE: This resource is currently available online as an
add-on module for some Bible software programs.)

In the case of Greek words, the window would contain a link (TDNT) to
the Theological Dictionary of the New Testament, by Geoffrey
Bromiley, published by Eerdmans in 1985. It utilizes the Strong's
index number, but the volume and page number is provided in the
Online Bible window for those with access to the multi-volume version,
and the page number for those using the abridged version. (NOTE:
This resource is currently available online as an add-on module for
some Bible software programs.)

Strong’s number. If you put your mouse cursor over this number,
another floating window will appear, giving verb stem and mood
information. Consult a book on Hebrew or Greek grammar for further
