Behind God
Why are College
Students leaving Church?
 Our Culture is not Christian
 What is the reason?
 Is it Church? The people? The Bible
doesn’t have answers?
 Acts 14:8-20 (Page 843)
Modern Atheism
 Atheism has taken on a much more hostile approach
toward Christianity in the past 30 years.
 “Faith is the great cop-out, the great excuse to evade
the need to think and evaluate evidence. Faith is belief
in spite of, even perhaps because of, the lack of
evidence.” – Richard Dawkins
 Atheists see religion as a something that needs to be
eradicated from society. It is a poison to the “victim.”
Common Arguments

Look at all the wars Religion has caused! (Straw Man)

Look at how hypocritical the followers are! (Straw Man)

The Bible has absolutely NO answers! (Circular Reasoning)

You can’t believe something you can’t see! (Burden of Proof)

Science and The Bible don’t mix! (False Attribution)

The Bible does have answers.
The Logic behind God
 We do not blindly follow God
 Without God there is no real Purpose
 Without God, how is there order in the Universe?
 Without God there is no Universal Truth
What does this have to do with
College Students?

College Students are hurting and they are not coming back.

College is a time where people go to get answers to the Big
Questions.

College Students don’t want the answers in The Bible.

College is a time where rules can kind of be suspended.

No Parents, No rules, No God.

College Students are trying to find a Purpose.
The Modern Church

Many College Students are turning to Atheism because they believe the
Modern Church cannot satisfy their needs. The Church also doesn’t align
with their beliefs.

Common views are:

Church is Intolerant

Church is corrupting people’s minds

Church does not encourage freedom of thought

Church is filled with hypocrites
Reaching out to the next
Generation
 It is clear that The Bible does have answers, God does exist,
God is Logical, we have a purpose, and everyone needs
Jesus.
 Matthew 28:18-20 “The Great Commission” (Page 760)
 Ephesians 4:15 “Speak the Truth in Love” (Page 897)
 When we reach out we must go out in Love. Without Love
the Truth will mean nothing to many of the people we are
reaching out to.
