You use the
Perfect Tense to
talk about things
which happened in
the past, e.g.
yesterday (gestern).
The Perfect Tense is
made up of 2 parts
Most verbs take the
conjugated form of
‘haben’ (to have) +
Past Participle
(the bit at the end)
Here is an example for the verb ‘essen’ (to eat)

• The Past Participle for the
verb ‘essen’ (to eat) starts with
• ‘ge’ and ends in ‘en’.
• Note: an extra ‘g’ is added to
make it sound better
‘gegessen’
Here is an example for the verb ‘trinken’
(to drink)

The Past Participle for the verb ‘trinken’ (to
drink) also starts with ‘ge’ and ends in ‘en’.
But:
In addition, the verb ‘trinken’ has a vowel
change
