INTRODUCTION
DTH services were introduced in India 3 years
ago and it has been successful in bringing
Digital entertainment to Indian home.
Recently there are about 2-3 millions DTH
homes and it is growing at a fast rate.
If India has to catch up with the world and
become a super power, DTH can play a major
role.
In this presentation we will examine the
introduction of new technology and its impact
on DTH services.
ABOUT DIRECT TO HOME (DTH)
Our Prime Minister Manmohan Singh
launched India’s First DTH service DD Direct
Plus on Dec 16 2004.
It bypasses the Cable Network & SMATV
system. It is direct from satellite to
consumer’s home.
DTH can provide entertainment, news
games & lots more to viewer.
DTH SERVICE IN INDIA
It provides Doordarshan Channels,
Private Channel & Radio Channel.
Doordarshan Channels:DD-National, DD-News, DD-India,
DD-Bharti, DD-Gujarati, DD-Gyandarshan
etc.
Private Channels: Sun TV, Star Utsav, MH1, Jain TV, Akash
Bangla, BBC World, ETC Punjabi, Smile TV,
Zee Music, Aaj Tak
Radio Channels: AIR Gujarati , AIR Kannada,
AIR Bangla, FM Rainbow & FM Gold

inaccessible to Indian audience.

overkill of localize channel.
FUTURE OF DTH IN INDIA
Opportunities for DTH in India look great.
There would be around 2.5 million DTH
subscriber in India.
Since India’s population crossed one
billion mark it is no surprise that satellite
operator and programmer’s eyes are on
the world market for DTH satellite TV
service.
