District VII Meeting
January 14th, 2014

Shantay Werdle - Junior High Representative
Shantay Werdel is the 13–year old daughter of
Pete & Rachelle Werdel of Highmore. Shantay is
involved in FCCLA, FFA, volleyball, basketball,
choir, band, and her church youth organization.
Shantay has participated in numerous Highmore
FCCLA activities and community service projects
including the Dig for a Cure Breast Cancer
Awareness Night and also serves as the VP of
Programs. Shantay has also organized a local
Operation Christmas project in her community for
the past four years in which she collects
Christmas gifts for deserving children. Shantay
plans to further strengthen her leadership skills by
becoming more involved in South Dakota FCCLA.
Kaley Schweitzer-Treasurer
Kaley Schweitzer is the 15 year-old daughter
of Rodney and Joy Schweitzer. She is
involved in FCCLA, NJHS, FBLA, SADD,
Student Council, Band, Chorus, Dance, and
Competition Cheerleading. In Kaley’s free time
she loves to sing and dance. Her dance studio
is her second home, and dances there for
more than 7 hours a week. She enjoys making
up her own dances to the newest songs on the
radio. She has sung multiple times in church
and at her school’s talent show. Kaley is
currently serving as the 2013-2014 SD FCCLA
Jr. High Representative and serves as the
local Secretary/Treasurer for the Redfield
FCCLA Chapter. Kaley has been a part of
many activities in FCCLA. Such as Santa Day,
Family Fun Day, and others.
Hayden Houdek- Secretary
Hayden Houdek is the 18-year old son of
Randy and Deb Houdek of Highmore.
Hayden is involved in FCCLA, FFA, FBLA,
Football, Cross Country, Basketball, Track,
Golf, Band, and Drama. Club. In his free time
Hayden enjoys hunting and hanging out with
his friends. Hayden is currently serving as a
Peer Education Family Team member and
serves as the local Vice President of the
Highmore FCCLA Chapter. Hayden has
organized and participated in numerous
FCCLA activities and community service
projects including the Halloween Carnival,
Red Ribbon Week activities, a town clean-up,
and a project teaching others about sports
injuries. Hayden has served on the District VII
FCCLA Executive Council for three years.
Kaci Clement– Co-Chairperson
Kaci Clement is the daughter of Doug and Glenna
Clement. She’s currently a sophomore at Faulkton
High School. Other than FCCLA, She’s involved in
football sideline cheerleading, volleyball,
basketball, track, and her church youth group.
She’s also on the yearbook committee and is part
of the one-act and all-school plays. She has
participated and helped organized several FCCLA
activities and community service projects. She has
received state and national recognition for STAR
events she has completed including Food
Innovations and Focus on Children. She has held
offices including local VP of Public Relations and
district Co-Chairperson. Though FCCLA Kaci she
learned many skills that will help her take initiative
and help others.
Emma Gruenwald– Chairperson
Emma Gruenwald is the daughter of
Marie Kimlicka and Kurt VanVleet. She is
a junior at Redfield High School. She
serves as South Dakota’s State Vice
President of Membership and as
Redfield’s Chapter President. Through
FCCLA, Emma has held 2 state offices,
2 district offices, and 4 chapter offices.
Besides FCCLA, she is involved band,
drum line, chorus, and National Honor
Society. Emma would like to thank her
family, friends, advisors, and teachers for
being so supportive throughout her
FCCLA officer term.
Opening Ceremony
President:
Gives a rap with the gavel signaling the officers and members to stand, then
begins the meeting by stating, “We are members of Family, Career and
Community Leaders of America. Our mission is to promote personal growth and
leadership development through Family and Consumer Sciences Education.”
Officers:
“Focusing on the multiple roles of family member, wage earner, and community
leader, members develop skills for life through character development, creative
and critical thinking, interpersonal communication, practical knowledge, and career
preparation.”
Members:
“As we work toward the accomplishment of our goals, we learn cooperation, take
responsibility, develop leadership, and give service.”

David Kastner is the son of Heather
Larsen and Dan Kastner. He is a 8th
Grader at Redfield High School.
David is the Vice President of the
local Redfield FCCLA chapter.
Besides FCCLA, he is involved in
Chorus, SADD, Track, and has also
been involved in Student Council.
David has also done Life Event
Planning which he got gold at state
and is very involved in chapter
activities. David would like to thank
his friends, family, advisor, and
teachers for being supportive
throughout his FCCLA experience.
Maria Pazour
Highmore
Maria Pazour is the 12-year old daughter
of Diane Pazour of Highmore. Maria is
involved in FCCLA, CCD church
organization, and 4-H. Maria’s hobbies
include reading and working on her bow
and arrow skills. She enjoys giving back
to her community and has done so by
completing community service projects at
the Highmore Senior Citizen Center and
helping with the FCCLA Halloween
Carnival and Haunted House. Although it
is Maria’s first year as a member in
FCCLA, she looks forward to completing a
STAR Event for state meeting and running
for a local FCCLA office.
Abbigayle Quinn
Faulkton
Abbigayle Quinn is the daughter of Joy
Huss and Tim Quinn. She is an eighth
grader at Faulkton Area Schools. In
FCCLA, Abbi has been very involved
with chapter projects. She also
competed in the Focus On Children
STAR Event at a national level this past
summer. Her other activities include
band, chorus, piano, competition
cheerleading, and basketball. She would
like to thank her parents, teachers, and
advisors for being an amazing support
throughout this process.

Kaitlyn Hague
Highmore
Kaitlyn Hague is the 15–year old daughter of

Drama Club, Golf, and Football and
Basketball Stats. In her free time Kaitlyn
enjoys photography, hunting, and spending
time with friends and family. She is currently
serving as a Peer Education Community
Team member and serves as the local VP of
Community Service. She shows her love for
FCCLA at many levels and enjoys helping
with local activities, such as the Halloween
Carnival/Haunted House, Tailgater
Fundraisers, and working on her STAR
Events. Kaitlyn achieved one of her FCCLA
goals by competing at National FCCLA this
past summer with her Recycle and Redesign
STAR Event. She looks forward to becoming
involved with FCCLA at the district level.
Lizzie Hansen
Redfield
Lizzie Hansen is the daughter of
Brian and Sheila Hansen. She’s a
sophomore at Redfield High School.
Lizzie serves as her FCCLA chapter
Vice-President, her FBLA chapter
Parliamentarian, her class President,
and is a member of the South
Dakota 4-H Youth Council. Besides
FCCLA, she is involved in FBLA, 4H, Oral Interp, Girls’ Basketball,
Softball, and Student Council. Lizzie
enjoys listening to music, watching
movies, and hanging out with her
best friend. Lizzie would like to
thank her friends, family, and advisor
for supporting her FCCLA career.
Standing in line to get the keys to her new dorm at South Dakota State,
Matilyn Kerr was spotted and recognized for being a former FCCLA state officer;
after than she continued to be recognized for her involvement in FCCLA and FFA
across campus. Often she found herself explaining CTSOs to the mass. CTSO
involvement and CTE instruction set the pace for Matilyn Kerr’s leadership
experience and future interests/goals.
Matilyn Kerr was involved in FFA and FCCLA on the local, district, state, and
national levels. She explains her involvement in both organizations to be a balance –
excelling in the leadership aspect of one and the competition component of the
other. Her most notable achievements with the organizations include: placing in the
top three teams for State FFA Parliamentary Procedure twice, placing as the Top Individual for
Agricultural Sales at State FFA, serving as the 2009-2010 State FCCLA First Vice President, and serving as
the 2010-2011 National FCCLA Vice President of Finance complemented by a two year term on the
National FCCLA Board of Directors.
After FCCLA, Matilyn packed her bags for South Dakota State University where she majors in
Entrepreneurial Studies and Speech Communication with minors in marketing and leadership and
management of a non-profit organization. She is actively involved in the Honors College, the Greek
System, and the Hobo Day Committee. When she has a break from school and extracurricular events at
college Matilyn enjoys coming home to catch up on TV shows, play with her dog, Oprah, and most
importantly, sleep!
