Background about Medusa
MEDUSA
The Medusa was an ugly creature. Let's have a look at how she came into existence, for she wasn't always that ugly...
Again, the gods played their role.
The Medusa was the daughter of Phorkys and Keto, the children of Gaea (Earth) and Oceanus (Ocean). She was
one of the three sisters known as the Gorgons. The other two sisters were Sthenno and Euryale. Medusa was the
only mortal out of the three.
She was originally a golden-haired and very beautiful maiden, who, as a priestess of Athena, was devoted to a life
of celibacy; but, being wooed by Poseidon, whom she loved in return, she forgot her vows, and became united to
him in marriage. For this offence she was punished by the goddess in a most terrible manner. Each wavy lock of
the beautiful hair which had so charmed her husband, was changed into a venomous snake; her once gentle, loveinspiring eyes now became blood-shot, furious orbs, which excited fear and disgust in the mind of the beholder;
whilst her former roseate hue and milk-white skin assumed a loathsome greenish tinge.
Seeing herself thus transformed into so repulsive an object, Medusa fled from her home, never to return.
Wandering about, abhorred, dreaded, and shunned by all the world, she now developed into a character, worthy
of her outward appearance. In her despair she fled to Africa, where, as she passed restlessly from place to place,
infant snakes dropped from her hair, and thus, according to the belief of the ancients, that country became the
hotbed of these venomous reptiles. With the curse of Athene upon her, she turned into stone whomsoever she
gazed upon, till at last, after a life of nameless misery, deliverance came to her in the shape of death, at the hands
of Perseus.

Background about Cerberus
Cerberus (Greek mythology) is best known as the guardian to the gates of
Hades (the Underworld).
In Greek mythology Cerberus is depicted as a dog with three ferocious heads
and the tail of a snake. He is one of the great Greek monsters born unto
Typhon and Echidna.
His sole task is essentially be the "bouncer" of Hades. As the rules go, only the
dead may enter the Underworld, and none may leave.
There are only a couple of myths in Greek mythology where a hero gets the
better of Cerberus. The first is when Orpheus (Greek mythology), the
famed musician, sneaks into Hades by lulling the usually unstoppable
Cerberus to sleep with his beautiful music.
The second myth is when Hercules (Greek mythology), with the approval of
Hades (Greek mythology), the god of the Underworld, gets Cerberus in a
choke hold, knocks him out, and kidnaps him. He is eventually returned to
his post where he remains to this day. Other than these myths, the threeheaded hound of Hell is an unmatched force for anyone trying to get in or
out of Hades without express permission.

Background on Hydra
The Hydra was a Monster that had many heads, and each time a head was killed, two
would grow in its place. It is generally said to have either six or eight mortal heads,
and one immortal head. This head could not be harmed by any weapon.
The Hydra guarded the entrance to the Underworld at a swamp near Lake Lerna at the
time of her death. It terrorized with place quite often, and Heracles was sent to kill
it as the second of his impossible labors. When he entered, he killed three heads
with his club, but found that two more grew back each time one was killed.
Heracles sought the help of his nephew Iolaus, who came up with the idea of
burning the stumps of the severed heads, stopping the poison bloodflow, causing
her heads to stop returning. Hera sent a large crab to distract Heracles while he
fought the Hydra, but he crushed it with his foot. When only one head remained,
Heracles cut it off and buried the still living head under a large boulder. This was
the Hydra's immortal head, and killed her permanently.
Powers and Abilities
The Hydra's most potent ability is the power to regrow any head that is cut off, with
twice as many in its place. It is also said to be extremely venomous, killing
someone with a single scent of its breath. It could also spit fire and acid.
