What is OS X?
Macintosh’s native operating system
OS X = Operating System 10 (HCPSS is currently
using version 10.6)
What Windows 7 is to Dell computers (or HP,
Sony, etc.), OS X is to Apple computers
Is Your Software Up-toDate?
Ensure that you have administrative rights.
Check for updates every other week.
Updating your software ensures that you have
the latest fixes so that your MacBook is capable
of optimal performance.
Update your Browser (Firefox and Safari)
Customizing System
Preferences
Some of the most helpful preferences:
Expose and Spaces
Displays
Track Pad
Zooming In and Out
Other Tools
Keyboard Shortcuts – Key combinations that can
save you time.
OmniDazzle – Screen effects download for
presentations.
Dashboard Timer – Countdown timer for your
MacBook
QuickTime – Great for screencasts that demonstrate
how to use your computer.
This Weeks Activity
Utilize one or more of the system preferences that we’ve
explored.
Summarize how you’ve used that preference
(i.e. I use the countdown timer to show the students how much
more time they have for Type to Learn 4)
Send the summary to your teams Facilitator.
The Team Facilitator should post a team list in the appropriate
table on the course wiki by Sunday March 6, 2011.
