Title
• The map title shows
what the subject of the
map is.
This is the title!
Compass Rose
• A compass rose
has arrows that
point to all four
principal
directions: north,
south, east, and
west.
Keep in mind
that north is not
always up on
a map!

A legend, or key, explains what
the symbols represent on a map.
Map Scales
• Scales represent the
distances between
points on a map.
• Scales give distances
in miles and
kilometers.
• Use your map and
practice finding the
distances between two
states of your choice.
